Dear Parent,

Thank you for sending in tins, sweets and gifts for our Tombola and Raffle today!

We had third in a series of four visits today from the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and Year 4 pupils are helping with their research project into creativity.

Year 5 pupils had their Samba session today ready for the Y5 Transition Concert at The John Frost School which will take place on Wednesday 28th June.

Also today, Laura Salter, from The John Frost School, visited as part of the Year 6 Transition Project.

On Wednesday morning, Mr Colin Phillips from Newport City Council will be coming in to talk to class 4/5B about the Market Arcade Restoration Project which will be taking place for the next eighteen months.

He is very keen to find out any memories that people may have of the Market Arcade and also see any photographs because there are not many around. From Thursday 29th June to Saturday 1st July, there will be a display in the Market where people can share memories or photos and Newport City council staff will be there to chat with visitors.

The Operasonic rehearsals continue on Wednesday. Their performance will take place at the Riverfront on Sunday 2nd July and a sharing for parents will take place in school on Thursday 29th June.

On Thursday, Year 4 pupils are taking part in a cluster Y4 Olympics Day at the John Frost School. This was a very successful event last year and it should be just as good this time.

On Friday afternoon children in Classes 5/6P and 5/6W will be visiting Newport cathedral to see the dress rehearsal of the musical Noye’s Fludde, which tells the story of Noah. Several local schools are involved in this performance and pupils taking part from our school are India Oak, Leon Smith and Isobel Ormrod.

Our Summer Fayre is on Friday June 16th from 3.45-5.00pm.

I hope that you will be able to join us for this!

Raffle tickets are on sale every day in school and in the Nursery for 50p a strip.

We still need a few parents or grandparents to help with a stall on Friday afternoon. If you are able to help with this, or help on Thursday either morning or afternoon, or Friday morning, please let the office staff know. We will be grateful for any offers of help with this.

Please send in any cakes, samosas or pakoras on Friday morning.

Thank you to Mr Barber, who again will be donating his bouncy castle to help us raise money.

Please line up outside the front gate on Stow Hill or the back gate on North Street once you have collected your child from school. This year, all Junior children will go home through the side door, near the mural on the wall by the Reception garden. This means that it will be easier for you to line up either at the front of the school or the back Junior gate ready for 3.45pm.

The reason we have to ask you to line up is that most stalls are manned by staff and they have to be able to dismiss their class before they can get to their stall before 3.45pm.

Sun Cream and Sun Hats

Now that the weather is warmer it would be helpful if you could put some sun cream on your child before they come to school. You may also want to give them a sun hat to wear. (Please ensure that your child’s name is inside.)

Children are not permitted to wear strappy sun tops or cropped tops for PE or sports practice. They must wear appropriate tops with short sleeves.

Healthy Week

Healthy Week takes place from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd June. Our Kit Day is on Monday and children are asked to wear sports kit to school. There is no charge for this.

Sports Day

This will take place on the reserve date of Thursday 29th June. I’m sorry for any inconvenience that this change of date may have caused. Junior Sports start at 9.30pm and Infant Sports start at 1.30pm. Both of these events take place on the school yard and at Clifton Park (The Gem). Sports coaches from Sports Xtra will be joining us all day and organizing fun sports activities.

Nursery Sports Day is on Wednesday 21st June at 10.00 am and 2.00pm.

Bonus Ball

The winner this week was Mrs Vaughan (my mum).

Breakfast Club

Now that the SHARE Centre Breakfast Club has moved to school, there is a temporary vacancy for a Breakfast Club Supervisor, to start as soon as possible. If you are interested, you will need to be able to lead games and activities with the children taking part. Please ask at the office if you would like an application form. All applications must be in by Friday 23rd June.

Yours sincerely,

H Vaughan
