Dear All,

In Assembly this morning, the Attendance certificate for the best class during October was awarded and for the second month, the winning class was 1/2VS with a staggering 97.3%. Well done!

On Friday last week, Class 5/6P presented a very moving Remembrance Service, which was attended by parents and some guests from the Royal Welsh Regiment Association who were very complimentary about the event.

The deadline for nominations for Parent Governor was last week, and we received only one nomination form, so I am pleased to announce that Dave Phillips, Declan’s dad, becomes our fourth Parent Governor, joining Caroline Bradfield, Anna Khan and Alex Guest.

Year 6 pupils have been invited to a Chartist event, on Tuesday, at the home of the Welsh Government, The Senedd. They should return before the end of the school day, depending on traffic. A separate letter has come home about this.

On Thursday, the seventh Families Connect meeting will take place from 9.00 – 11.00am. These meetings are going well and the parents attending are earning Time Credits which they can exchange for a wide range of activities across the country. The last one will be next week.

Also on Thursday, Mrs Couch has a meeting with Mrs S Haigh, our Education Welfare Officer to discuss attendance.

I have received a number of responses to the question about a further meeting regarding Time Credits. Most of the requests were for a 2.45pm meeting, so I will hold a meeting on Monday 20th November at 2.45pm. In case you didn’t know, you can earn Time credits by helping with the Christmas Fayre, either with the preparations before or by helping on the day. So please come to this meeting to get more details.

This Friday, 17th November, is Children in Need Day, and Mrs Davies and School Council have sent out a letter explaining what will happen. Just to remind you- children can bring a bear with a spotted bandage, and/or dress as their hero as long as the outfit is appropriate for school. The donation is 50p and there are other activities which were detailed in the letter.

A few more reminders:

  • Orders for School Photos must be in by Friday 17th November.
  • Flu vaccination letters have come out to children from Reception to Y4. Please return them by 20th November. The Vaccination day is Friday 1st December. To find out more visit the School Immunisation Team ABUHB Facebook page or ring 01633 618038
  • Our Christmas fayre is fast approaching, please don’t forget to send in your donations of sweets/ chocolate etc. Also Raffle Tickets will be on sale daily at break time from this week at 50p per strip.

I would like to apologise for the confusion over School Dinner menus this week. Chartwells, who deliver our meals, made a last-minute decision to change the menu and did not inform us. Mrs Kidd has been chasing up the menu so that we can send it out, but please note that we are no longer receiving the food on the menu which came out at the beginning of term.

Dates for next week – Junior classes will be holding an Enterprise Sale on Thursday 23rd November from 3.00pm – 4.00pm in their classrooms.

Also Friday 24th November is a Cluster INSET Day, so the schools in The John Frost School Cluster will be joining for a training event and both School and Nursery will be closed.

There is another roll over this week.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs S Couch

Acting Headteacher
