Dear All,

Miss Vaughan will be back in school on Tuesday, so I have covered her duties today. It is a busy week with lots of events.

Attendance letters went out last week. Our target for the year from September 2016 to July 2017 is an average of 94%, currently there are 95 children whose attendance average is below 94% and 188 children whose attendance is above 94%. Our average is now running at 94.4%. With your continued support, we hope to continue to exceed our target.

Every day this week, there will be a Mother’s Day Sale at breaktime in the Library. Gifts range from £1.00 to £3.00 in price, and there may also be a few 50p items.

This morning Class 4/5B went to Belle Vue  Park to make nest boxes, this event was organised by Natalie Waller, Newport’s Biodiversity and Education Officer.

Both Reception classes visited the Library this morning, for a Parent participation session organised by Newport Library.

The Milittlepad Scratch coding workshop runs this afternoon with class 4/5B.

Last week, the children made over one hundred pairs of shoes for the Chartist Trail and these will be collected this week.

On Tuesday Class 3/4G and 3/4S are visiting Pontypool Museum to find out about toys from the past.

The GEMS Reading Café is on Wednesday.

Nursery are visiting Caerphilly Castle on Tuesday.

Also on Wednesday, the first Operasonic session takes place after school. This is part of the Newport Legends project.

On Thursday, Miss Watkins will be taking a small group of children to an event organised by Keep Wales Tidy, at Newport Wetlands.

Class 1/2VS have their Class assembly on Friday morning and it starts at 9.15am.  You  are welcome to attend for this

Also on Tuesday and Friday (lunchtimes), Mrs Parkinson and I will be supervising children who have already paid to decorate a plate or bowl for Mother’s Day. The cost of this is £3. There has been a huge demand for these items and unfortunately we are unable to get any more plates. Children can still spend their money on the Mother’s Day sale in the library every day.

Comic Relief – Friday 24th March

Our School Council met and decided that this year the children would dress up as ‘Something Funny’. This could be funny hair, face paints or wearing big sunglasses. Also, they would like the children to write on a sticker ‘Something funny on their tummy’ (a joke with the answer on the back) for a donation of 50p which will be given to Comic Relief.

On the day of Comic Relief, they will also be selling cakes for 50p each. Please send in the money with them on Friday.
