Dear Parent/Guardian,

Thank you for supporting Comic Relief on Friday! We collected a total of £213.60 for this charity. Well done to the School Council and Cookery Club for helping to arrange the fundraising activities.

Well done to Class 1/2VS for a great assembly about China and their other work this year!

The morning and afternoon Nursery classes did gorgeous concerts today for Mother’s Day! Well done to them! Thank you for supporting us today.

There is no Cookery Club or Netball Club this week.

On Wednesday morning, Year 5 pupils are going to Nant Coch Church to have an ‘Easter Explained’ activity. This is always a fun session.

Class 1/2DJ are visiting the library on Wednesday morning.

Also on Wednesday, Year 6 pupils are going for their annual residential trip to Talybont Outdoor Pursuits Centre. They will be returning on Friday. The weather forecast is a good for the next few days and they should have a great time doing lots of activities. Thank you to Miss Watkins, Mrs Jarrett, and Mrs Fowler, who will be accompanying them.

The Foundation Phase is also hosting a training session for other schools across the South East Wales Education Achievement Service on Wednesday morning and we will be visited for the morning by a number of teachers to see good practice in Outdoor Learning. Thank you to Miss Spray and all of the staff who have worked so hard to make this event successful.

We are running two Resource Making Workshops on Thursday, which we would very much appreciate help with please. ? These workshops will be led by Mrs Helen Davies (who runs our Family Learning courses) and will run between either 9.00-11.00am or 1.00-3.00pm. You are free to pop in at any time in these sessions.

The aim is to make some resources ready to use and give out at our Foundation Phase Reading Extravaganza on Wednesday 26th April. Parents and grandparents of any age pupil will be really welcome, even if you can join us for just an hour. We would like you to help with some cutting, making and laminating and we’ll have plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits to keep you going!

Your support for our Lead Creative School projects was amazing and we would very much like to build on that if we can. We plan to run future Resource Making Workshops in the future but please join us on Thursday if you can.

Mother’s Day Plate Decorating and Gift Shop

Thank you very much for supporting our Mother’s Day Plate Decorating sessions and Gift Shop in aid of school funds. We raised an amazing total of £368.75    from the plates and £218.75 from the gift items! Thank you very much to parents and staff who sent items in and also to Mrs Kidd, Mrs Martin, Mrs Parkinson and Mrs Couch for running these events.

World Book Week

Don’t forget to donate your unwanted books to school this week. We will be having a book sale to raise funds for school.

World Autism Awareness Week

This week is World Autism Awareness Week.

Elections and INSET Days

Our next INSET day will be taken on the Election Day on Thursday 4th May.

Parent Governor

The election period for the new Parent Governor finished last Monday and votes were cast between Caroline Bradfied, David Phillips and Ayesha Zeshan. Caroline Bradfield was the winning nomination and as well as congratulating her I’d like to thank all three parents for being prepared to support the school in this role and I’d like also like to thank you for voting.

The fact that we had three parents willing to stand for this role in a time when many schools struggle to get just one nomination shows what a strong parent community we have! Thank you.

Birthday Cake

Please remember that bithday cakes can only be brought to school in the Nursery but not in other classes. You are welcome to cut and wrap cake at home to bring in if you wish but a better option is to send in a box of wrapped sweets or chocolates for your child to share at the end of the day.

Mrs Hayes

Congratulations and best wishes to Mrs Hayes who gave birth recently to a baby girl, Poppy Matilda, who weighed six pounds and fourteen ounces. Both mother and baby are doing well and we’re looking forward to meeting her!

Bonus Ball

There is a rollover this week!

Yours sincerely,

H Vaughan
