Dear All,

The Parent Pay system for school dinners starts today.

The school cannot accept any cash payment for school dinners because all payment must be made directly to Chartwell’s Catering who supply the meals. All primary schools in Newport are now using this system. If you need help with a bar code, or an activation letter to pay online, please see either Mrs Kidd or Mrs Martin in the office.

Year 5 children finished their swimming course on Friday and have done tremendously well!

The children were a credit to you and on Friday morning not only were the children congratulated on their behaviour by members of the public at the pool (retired teachers who swim there daily) but they also rang the school because they were so impressed by them.

Well done also to Luca Citrini, Ryan Powell-Lewis, Robbie Stacey and who have been selected for trials for the Newport Water Polo Squad, and this is an honour in itself.

Milittlepad sessions on coding continue with with Year 3 and Year 4 pupils today.

On Tuesday Upbeat Music will be taking a music session in the Nursery.

On Tuesday afternoon, from 2.00pm, we are hosting a ‘Reading Extravaganza’ for all parents of Foundation Phase pupils from Nursery to Year 2.

This is the first time that we have done such an event and it should be helpful for you.

Miss Spray and the Foundation Team have been looking at the way we teach reading in school and have introduced a number of activities that they would like to tell you about. We also hope that in future weeks, some parents would be willing to join in with making resources for themselves and the children. Parents are asked to meet in the hall at 2pm for a brief explanation and then to visit each of the classes in Year 1/ 2, Reception and Nursery, where different activities will be set up.

Refreshments will be available at 3pm in the hall for a donation of 50p and raffle tickets will also be on sale at 50p per strip. Parents will then be asked to collect children from their usual exit doors at the end of the school day.

The GEMS Reading Café is on Wednesday and it starts at 2.45pm

We are starting a new Family Learning Numeracy course on Thursday for parents with children in Year 1/2 classes. These sessions will be led by Mrs Helen Davies, a teacher who has previouslyy run our parent sessions, and are aimed at giving you ideas for helping your child with Numeracy at home.

Today, your Year 1/2 child will bring home information about the things that they will be learning for the rest of the school year and I hope that this leaflet will be helpful for you.

There is no class assembly on Friday. Instead, Miss Watkin’s class will do theirs next Friday (10th February) at 9.15am.

Eco Tip

We have registered for a competition to collect batteries for recycling so please save any you can for us. Last year we were prizewinners in this competition, so we hope to do really well again this year.
