Dear Parent/Carer,
We’ve had a lovely first day back after half term and the children have settled back so well. 😊
Thank you also for your continuing support and patience at the start and end of the school day. You’ve been
great. 😊

This Week
In addition to our Newport Gwent Dragons rugby and our County in the Community football sessions this week,
we are also having defibrillator training for children in Years 5 and 6. Mr Peter Richards, from Calon Cymru, will
be in school tomorrow and on Wednesday to train children in the use of the defibrillator so that they have the
knowledge to use if they are ever in a situation outside school when it would be needed.
Mr Richards will also be running an update session for staff after school on Wednesday.
Hearing screening is taking place for Year 1 pupils on Friday.

Attendance
Congratulations to our half termly Early Bird Draw winners – Violet Lewis (2D) and Ammar Akalay (3/3S) who
both win a £5.00 gift card. Congratulations also to our Early Bird magnet winners in every class who had 100%
attendance for the half term. Well done also to Classes 5/6AP and 3/4S who both had the highest number of
children with 100% attendance (14 in each class) and had extra playtime as a result.
Our current level of attendance is 92% and our target for the school is 93%.

Covid 19
The response level in the Gwent Aneurin Bevan Health Board area remains at ‘very high’.
We are therefore doing the following:

  • All classes are in separate year group bubble ie. Reception/ Year 1/ Year 2/ Years 3 and 4/ Years 5 and 6.
They will play outside with their bubble classes only.
  • All classes will have lunch in their own classroom until the alert level comes down.
  • Breakfast Club will run in the Cadog Hall for Key Stage 2 pupils, and in the main hall in school for
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils so that they can be more spread out. The Breakfast Club entrance is
still on North Street for all pupils.
  • All parents and carers are requested to wear a face covering when dropping off or collecting their child
at school. Any parents and carers who are exempt are asked to distance themselves from other parents
    when waiting by the school.

Family Learning
On Thursday the next set of activity packs will go out for our SWOPS (St Woolos Online Parent support) session
on Numbers to 10. A letter will go out to families in classes in Reception to Year 1 but if anyone else would like
a set, please let us know and Mrs Couch can arrange for you to have one.
The link will be sent out on Thursday.
If you would like to access the previous session on Numbers to 5, then you can do so on this link:
