Dear Parent,

Well done to the Football Team who competed in a Football Tournament on Wednesday at Spytty Park and who are developing really good team co-operation. They were a credit to the school!

Thank you for such strong attendance at Nursery Consultations last week.

Great news! We were runners-up in a Newport Battery Recycling competition! We have been given £50.00 of Amazon vouchers for the Eco Team to spend for the school. Thank you for supporting this.

This afternoon all children from Reception upwards watched a Robin Hood pantomime. This was performed by the same company from Scotland who have visited us for several years now. They were as good as ever. Thank you to the Friends of St Woolos whose summer fundraising paid for this.

An after-school Digital Newsletter Club for Y6 pupils is starting tonight and it will run for the year. It is supported by Communities First and will be led by Craig Oates, a digital producer and director from First Campus and Scott Edwards, Communities First Support Worker. Miss Carlyle, Miss Ennis and Miss Spearey will be supporting this on a rota basis.

On Tuesday it is Remembrance Day and we will have our usual Remembrance Service. This year’s service will be slightly different because we will be commemorating the anniversary of the start of the First World War. During the service, a plaque commemorating those past pupils from St Woolos who have lost their lives in active service since 1914 will be dedicated. We will be joined at this service by The Rev. Beardmore, previous headteacher of the school, The Rev. Moore, whose mother attended the school, retired staff and members of the British Legion. (I will put a photo of the plaque on our Twitter feed @StWoolosPrimary)

Please note- The office will be closed between 10.30-11.15am on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, staff from Age Cymru are returning to our assembly to tell us the winners of the Age Cymru draw. I know from talking to some children that they have put their entries in the box and I hope that this has helped you to find out where the Age Cymru office is and see services they offer.

The Reception/Y1 Literacy course continues on Thursday from 9.00-11.00am. There is only one session left after this and a Reception/Year 1 Numeracy course will be starting on Thursday 27th November.

On Thursday morning, Class 4/5B are taking part in the national ‘Kids Take over The Museum’ Day. They will get the chance to do lots of activities based around the paintings.

The Fluoride Tooth Programme run by the Gwent Health Dental Service will also take for all children from Reception to Year 2.

The MEND Healthy Eating project continues on Thursday at 3.30pm.

Friday is Children in Need day and the theme is ‘Odd Shoes’. For a donation of 50p children can wear odd shoes (and socks if they want to) and they can also wear casual dress. The Friends of St Woolos will also be doing face painting for 50p. As in past years, the glass jar will be out to collect any 1 or 2p coins. Our challenge is to reach a mark on the jar that will give us extra playtime!

Class 5/6B have their Class Assembly on Friday and it starts at 9.15am. I hope that many of you will be able to attend. All are welcome.

Please note Friday is the last day for ordering photographs.
