Dear Parent/Carer

Covid Update

This newsletter is mainly aimed at providing you with an update about Covid in our school.

As a local government organisation, we have to follow the same regulations as Senedd staff, Civic Centre staff, hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and dentists etc.

This might mean that sometimes we are making extra requests, in order to manage situations in school.

As always, we work closely with you in all situations and so, to manage the significant and growing number of cases of Covid currently in school amongst both pupils and staff, and to make things more manageable for you, this is what I would like you to help us with for the next week please:

  • Please give your child a lateral flow test every morning for the next four days.
  • Please keep your child home if they test positive or if they are unwell.
If your child had Covid before Christmas, they can still be re-infected so please don’t assume that they are immune.
There is now no need for you to show us the Public Health Wales result on your phone or to email it to us.
Instead, it will be fine for you to take a picture of the lateral flow test and either:
  • Show the photo our child’s teacher

or

  • Send the photo to school at stwoolos.primary@newportschools.wales

or

  • Upload the photo to Seesaw

This should make it easier for you and, by just showing the photos, this will help to ensure that you are able to ‘Drop and Go’ without having to wait for a long time.

I’m doing all I can to keep classes open at the moment, so please bear with us if you see different staff at the gates every day.

I’ll write to you again on Friday to let you know what the situation will be for next week and also to give you an update about Breakfast Club, which I hope to reopen as soon as I can staff it.

Last Week

The ‘Never Such Innocence’ writing workshops in Year 5/6 classes were great and children did some really excellent writing as a result!

Congratulations to our Early Bird winners for last half term – Isabelle H in 5/6SP and Jackson M in RH! Well done to both of those! They have a £5.00 gift card in school to collect tomorrow.

This Week

Football and Rugby continue as usual.

We have a number of foodbank bags still available. We reserve some regularly for some parents so please let us know if you would like us to keep one every fortnight for you.

Children are continuing to impress us with their good behaviour, attitude towards work and general kindness. They’re a credit to you! 😊

Thank you very much for your continued understanding at this time and also for your support.
