Dear Parent/Carer,

We had our last set of concerts from Nursery, Years 3/4 and Years 5/6 and all of them have been a pleasure to watch and listen to!

Well done to all of the children taking part in every concert that we have had! Huge thanks also to staff for all their hard work in preparing pupils and to parents and grandparents for their help at home in readiness for the concerts. It’s been great also to have such strong family support at these concerts.

Well done also to members of the school choir for their lovely singing at Newport Cathedral last Saturday in a concert with Newport Orchestra and the Cathedral Choir in aid of Newport Night Shelter and ‘The Cwtsh’ Community Library! They received lots of compliments on their singing and behaviour.

I know it’s a busy time of year but I really appreciated the help we had from parents who supported us by bringing their child to sing, some at quite short notice. This helped ensure that as many children as possible were able to attend and have such a lovely singing experience.

Children in Classes 4J sang at the TSB on Tuesday morning and were a credit to you!

Our Christmas Parties took place today. Children had discos, played party games and have brought home a present. Thank you very much for your generous food gifts for children to share with each other. Children have had a great day! 😊

On Thursday we have our Talent Shows and children have been busy practising for these.

Toy Day is on Friday and children can bring in toys and games from home. Please don’t send in any items that plug into electricity or any remote controlled vehicles.

We are also having our usual Christmas Jumper/Top Day on Friday for a £1.00 donation to charity. All funds collected will go towards the new Aneurin Bevan Health Board Breast Care Centre for Excellence to be based at Aneurin Bevan Hospital.

The Early Years Christingle Service takes place at Havelock Street Church at 10.00am on Friday. Nursery and Reception children are invited to come with an adult and bring a Christingle (leaflet available from Nursery). They will be joined by children from Year 6 who will sing some songs. You are very welcome to join us for this, even if your child is not taking part.

Wrap Up Newport

Thank you for sending in donations of coats for redistribution across Newport. The collection has now finished and the coats will be distributed to organisations such as the Salvation Army, who are taking part in the scheme.

The Friends of St Woolos

Thank you to all of the Friends of St Woolos who have helped with the fundraising that has helped to pay for our Christmas activities for children!

Once the new term has settled, we will be holding a meeting for any parents who would like to help us with any fund-raising activities. We have a few new ideas and would love to hear any suggestions that you may have.

We are extremely grateful to all of our Christmas Fayre sponsors who are listed below!

Eco Tip

Wherever possible, recycle Christmas wrapping paper and string to use at home or for craft. If you have new clothes at Christmas or do any sale shopping and cut the hanging ribbons off, please send them in the school to use for craft. We will be participating in the Christmas Card Recycling Competition after Christmas, so please bring in all your cards after the Christmas Holiday.

Happy Christmas

We break up on Friday for the Christmas holiday. School and Nursery will resume on Monday 7th January 2019.

Finally, I’d like to thank staff for their very hard work this term, to thank you for your continued support for your child’s education and to wish you all a very happy and blessed Christmas and a happy, peaceful and prosperous new year!

Yours sincerely,

H Vaughan
