Dear Parent/Carer,

Summer Fayre

Thank you very much for all your support for the Summer Fayre!

It was a great afternoon, and was the hottest one we have ever known! Thank you for your co-operation with the queueing while staff dismissed children before being able to go to the yards. It was a big help also that some parents were able to help on the stalls. Thank you also to those of you who helped beforehand and to everyone for your very generous donations of items for stalls and raffle prizes. Thank you once again to Mr Barber for donating use of the inflatable shark! I am attaching a list of sponsors and would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to them for their support.

So far we have raised about £900.00  which easily matches last year’s total. This money raised will be spent on items for ICT and the Digital Leaders will be helping with the decision making for this.

We are having a ‘Summer Sale’ at breaktime tomorrow and Wednesday to sell remaining toys and books and items are priced at 20p, 50p and a few are £1.00

Flag Making Workshop

The local artist Andy O’Rourke is working with Year 5 pupils today and Wednesday on a flag making workship as part of the Newport Festival which is organised by NewportLive.

World Cup Day

We are having a World Cup Day on Tuesday before England’s match on Tuesday evening. Children are able to wear football kit or sports kit for the day (no charge) and they will be doing some more World Cup actvities. Classes 5/6W and 5/6P, who are already basing their topic work around the World Cup, are asked to bring their uniform to school because they are singing at Newport (St Woolos) Cathedral in the afternoon (see below).

Newport (St Woolos Cathedral) Festival of Welcome

Newport Cathedral have a Festival of Welcome and Flower Festival which is taking place from today until the end of the week. Tomorrow, at 2.00pm, children from classes 5/6W and 5/6P will be singing in a special free concert as part of this Festival.

You are welcome to pop into the Cathedral at any time during the week to see what’s happening and have a look around.

There are tours of the Tower on Tuesday and Thursday from 10.30-12.00pm and on Wednesday from 2.00-4.00pm.

On Wednesday at 10.00am there is a Cathedral talk and tour.

Other events (all free) include talks by author Sylvia Mason about her book, “Every Woman Remembered” and also Charles Ferris will be striking replica medieval coins which came from the Newport Ship, from about the same time that the Cathedral Tower was built.

Trips

On Wednesday, Classes 3/4M, 3/4J and 4/5B have their trip to Barry Island as part of their topic work. The Nursery are also going on their visit to the Margam Park. On Thursday Reception Classes visit Puxton Adventure Park. On Friday, Class 4/5B have a visit to  Newport Wetlands.

Family Science Workshop

I hope that you enjoyed last week’s after-school Family Science Workshop. The second one is taking place on Wednesday from 3.45pm-4.45pm.

Attendance and Punctuality

Our attendance is currently running at 93.4% and our target is 94%.

Thank you to everyone who has really taken on board the message about  about lateness. There is a definite improvement.

We have a school standards review with the Education Achievement Service next Tuesday and attendance will be one of the areas that is discussed.

Nursery Open Day Change of Date

The Nursery Open Day will now take place on Monday 23rd July, instead of Monday 16th July, which is the school Open Afternoon. I apologise for any inconvenience this change of date may cause and hope that you will be able to attend.

Class Photos

The last day to hand in orders for class photos is Wednesday this week.

Outstanding Dinner Money

As at this morning, there are 28 people in debt with Chartwells for dinner money. Can I remind you that you should not be ordering meals for your child unless their Parentpay/Paypoint account is in credit. Please clear all outstanding dinner money immediately. For those parents who have not cleared their outstanding debts by Friday, I will be asking you to make an appointment to come in to school and discuss the situation with me because theschool is liable for the debt.

Club Awards Morning

Our Club Awards Morning for regular attendance at school clubs will take place on Friday 13th July at 10.00am and you are welcome to join us for this. It may last for well over an hour and a half though because we have a lot of certificates to give out.

Thank you

Thank you for your patience today over the changed INSET day.

I’m aware that not everyone may have had the updated Diary Dates sheet or had seen the newsletters about this because sometimes children forget to take them home. It will, therefore, be helpful for you to know that we are introducing a text messaging service from September. We have signed up with Schoop (School in the Loop) and once we have broken up from school, you will be able to sign up for your child’s new class in September. This works via a free downloadable app from either the Google or Apple store and we will send you the code and details later in the term to use once we have broken up.

The school newsletters are put on the website weekly, if ever you want to catch up with anything and are also on the main exit doors in school.

The new system will help to make things much more manageable for you and also the office.

We are hoping to obtain sponsorship for the cost of this service so I’ll keep you updated about that.

Bonus Ball

There is a roll over this week.

Yours sincerely,
