Dear Parent/Carer,

What another fantastic week last week was!

Huw Williams from the UpBeat Team  was in school on Tuesday and Wednesday working with all children from Reception to Year 6 on Cwricwlwm Cymreig Sessions that were absolutely jam-packed with Welsh Music, Dance, Culture and stories. The children were absolutely mesmerized by the different instruments that Mr Williams: or Huw Cloggs as he is also known, played for them and enjoyed the chance to learn some traditional Clog Dancing steps to then incorporate into their own routines. The  children were a joy to watch as they performed and participated with enthusiasm and smiles.

Parent Consultations

Parent Consultations took place last week for Reception to Year 6. I know that the staff really enjoyed speaking with you all and sharing your children’s successes and experiences in class. We were so pleased with the engagement from parents and I felt so proud hearing the positive feedback and words of support that you had for our school and staff.

K-Pop Sessions

The K-Pop dance sessions by Upbeat Music and Arts are continuing to run every week in school for years 3 to 6 and the children are thoroughly enjoying the energetic and upbeat sessions. The sessions develop a range of skills including movement, dance and  musicality as well as putting our children through a robust cardio work out!  K Pop dance sessions for children in Years 5/6 will run every Thursday until the end of term and sessions for Years 3/4 will take place normally on a Friday .

Ukraine Fundraiser

Last Thursday’s fundraising day for the Ukraine was a huge success. The school was a sea of blue and yellow and Ukrainian flags and the children were determined to complete their ‘half-marathon’ laps of the playground. The discussions and assemblies with the children demonstrated that the children have a wonderful ability to empathize and put others first; some children were even donating their own pocket money. We understand that this is a difficult subject and take all care to manage it with the children sensitively. We have ordered some story books for the classes that deal with the issue of conflict in a way that will support the children with this challenging issue.   We raised over £620! We cannot thank you enough for your support and generosity.

This Week

Attendance – this week has started brilliantly with Mrs Davies’ Attendance assembly where she revealed that 7 of our classes had reached or exceeded our Attendance Target of 93% last week. Well done to Classes 3/4B, 3/4J, 3/4S, 5/6AP, 5/6SP, 1DM …. and a huge Congratulations to 2JB who were our Attendance Champions with 98.9%.

Parent Consultations

Nursery Parent Consultations will take place with Mrs Spray this week on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Comic Relief

This Friday, 18th March is Comic Relief Day. Our School Council have once again been hard at work and have decided on a SuperHero or Supervillain theme. Children can dress up as a hero or villain or they can wear red or Comic Relief t-shirts and accessories. The School Council have also issued a pen and pencil ban in classes so that all activities that day have to be practical. Any donation would be much appreciated.

Finally, Miss Vaughan is working with Estyn this week so is out of school. I will be stepping up and am looking forward to meeting and speaking to as many parents as I can and to getting to know and work with the children throughout the school more closely.
