Dear Parent,

We had really lovely concerts in school last week from the Year 1/2 classes and from the Reception classes. Well done to all of them! The children were really great!

Well done also to the Football Team who played against Pentrepoeth last week. The final score was 3-1 to Pentrepoeth but the children played extremely well and a special mention goes to Isam, Morgan and Iannis as it was their first competitive game!

Their next match is on Thursday against Ysgol Bro Teyrnon, Brynglas.

Children are visiting Sycamore Ward today to sing carols as part of the Intergenerational project.

Our Christmas Sale has been moved to Tuesday and items will be on sale priced from 20p to 50p.

On Wednesday after school, we are holding a fund-raising Film Club with refreshments and the junior children have already had a letter about this.

This is a reminder that the school will be used as a Polling Station on Thursday 12th December that day and, in order to ensure the safety of pupils in the school, we will have to close the Nursery and Reception classes for that day. All other classes will remain open.

Netball on Thursday has been cancelled because staff have an extra meeting after school. There will be no after school clubs next week except for paying Minecraft and paying Football.

The Year 3/4 Concerts take place on Friday 13th December at 10.00am and 2.00pm. Please ensure that you have reserved the tickets you need.

Concerts Next Week

Our Christmas performances are:

Mon 16th Dec      Year 5/6 classes    2.00pm
Tues 17th Dec      Year 5/6 classes    2.00pm
Fri 20th Dec          Nursery, Reception and the Choir – Christingle at Havelock Street Church  – 10.00am

Please remember that no child under Nursery age is permitted to attend the concerts. This is to ensure that your child can have a fair chance of performing without being disturbed by other babies or toddlers.

If you have no-one to babysit, there will be an opportunity for you to attend a Dress Rehearsal the day before the concert and this will make it easier for you if your child cries and you have to take them out.

Please see your child’s class teacher to ask about this if you need to.

Attendance

Thank you for your understanding about our attendance requests. Our current total is 93.3% and our target is 94%.

We currently have a number of children away from school with a sickness bug and we understand if your child is not able to come to school if they have sickness. The most recent advice from the Aneurin Bevan Health Board is that children do not return to school until 48 hours after their last bout of sickness. This measure is important to limit the spread of any infection.

Please also continue to remind your child about good hygiene and regular hand-washing before eating food and after using the bathroom.

Wrap up Newport

Thank you for donating coats to be given to the Help the Homeless Newport project. They will be collected this week to be distributed to those in need.

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club was discussed in our Governors’ meeting last week and pupils will be bringing home a letter tomorrow about the funding for the extra time that we provide above the normal Breakfast Club time.

Parties

The Christmas parties take place next week on Tuesday for the Nursery and Wednesday for the school. There will be no Afternoon Nursery on Tuesday next week because of this. There will however, be a combined morning session. Children will be bringing home a letter about party food on Wednesday.

Christmas Fayre

Our final total was £1345.65 gross and £1247.31 net and the money will be spent on items and events for children.

This is an amazing total! Thank you very much indeed!

Thank you very much also to those sponsors listed overleaf who supported us with our Christmas Fayre!

Yours sincerely,

H Vaughan
